Affiliated with Alpha Stunts, he also works as a freelance producer and director. Sakamoto is from Senju, Adachi, Tokyo, Japan, and graduated from Senshu University Matsudo High School.
Inspired by Jackie Chan's film "Drunken Master," Sakamoto joined the Kurata Action Club in high school and began working as a stuntman at age 16. Motivated by his father's advice to either succeed by age 30 or take over the family business, Sakamoto moved to the United States after high school to pursue a career in film directing.
He began his U.S. journey in April 1989 as an exchange student, initially studying English at California State University, Los Angeles. He later transferred to Glendale Community College and then to the University of Southern California. During this time, he worked as a personal assistant to Jeff Pruitt on the film "Undercover." His work was recognized, leading to an offer as an assistant stunt coordinator, which he accepted despite initially lacking a work visa.
In 1992, Sakamoto co-founded the stunt team Alpha Stunts and began learning wire action techniques from the Jackie Chan stunt team in 1993.
He is not to be confused with Sakamoto Koichi associated with Kadokawa Shoten and Fujimi Shobo.
