Born in Seoul, Choi spent her childhood in Japan. Choi speaks fluent Japanese and has portrayed Japanese characters in two movies. She received her BA in Media and Film from Yonsei University. Her debut film was Lifting King Kong in 2009 and has since been in such films as Anarchist From Colony, Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet, and Our Body.
