Watanabe Katsuya is a Japanese director and stage manager known for his work on tokusatsu television dramas. He is from Kanagawa, Japan. After completing vocational school, Watanabe started his career in the film industry as a third assistant director on episodes 10 and 11 of "Choushinsei Flashman" in 1986. Initially hired as a temporary replacement for the hospitalized second assistant director, he continued with the series when the original assistant did not return. Watanabe was later promoted to second assistant director under Chief Assistant Director Morita Toshio and eventually became chief assistant director of "Choujin Sentai Jetman." Although Watanabe initially aimed to be a screenwriter and pitched scripts to producer Suzuki Takeshi, his scripts were not used. However, director Amemiya Keita recommended him for promotion to director. Watanabe made his directorial debut in 1992 with episode 11 of "Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger" at the age of 26.
