Genden Phuntsok, born in Ganzi, Sichuan Province, is a Chinese actor of Tibetan descent. He was scouted by movie director Li Ziheng in August 2006 at a horse racing festival in Litang, Sichuan. Genden was then an English teacher in a primary school and couldn't run but he trained hard for the next five months to prepare himself for his lead role. Genden officially entered showbiz in 2007 playing his lead role in the 2009 feature film "Wild Horse from Shangri La". He has participated in the 2015 Oscar shortlisted short film "The Butter Lamp" and also in the 2018 "Jinpa" which was shortlisted for the "Horizon" competition of the 75th Venice International Film Festival.
