Cao Xi Wen was born and raised in Jinhua, Zhejiang, where she attended the Zhejiang Arts School. There she majored in music and dance before entering Central Academy of Drama in 2004 where she majored in acting and graduated in 2008. Xi Wen made her acting debut in My World is Beautiful, Because of You in 2000, playing a secretary. Her first film role was an uncredited appearance in 2002's film Pearl Gown.
