Anh Sung Jae is South Korea's only Michelin three-star chef. Born in South Korea, he grew up influenced by his grandmother's traditional North Korean and Japanese cooking, shaped by the Japan-Korea annexation period. As a child, he moved to California, where his parents owned a Chinese restaurant, providing him with early exposure to the restaurant industry. After serving in the US Army and returning from Iraq, he decided to pursue a career as a chef. In 2015, he opened Mosu in San Francisco after gaining experience at several renowned restaurants.
